SUMMARY

To transfer a file from Microsoft Excel version 3.00 to version 2.20, save the 3.00 file in the 2.20 format as follows:

  1. From the File menu, choose Save As.
2. Click the Options button. 3. From the File Format list box, select Excel 2.2. 4. Click OK. 5. Click the Save button.

When saving a worksheet, macro sheet, or chart created in Microsoft Excel 3.00 in the Excel 2.2 format, characteristics unique to 3.00 either will not be saved or will be converted to their approximate Excel 2.20 equivalents.

MORE INFORMATION

Areas Converted

Borders: All custom borders will be converted to the standard, single-width borders found in Excel 2.20 and earlier.

Cell shading: All cell shading and coloring will be converted to the standard gray shade found in Excel 2.20.

Styles: The formats associated with each style will be retained in the cells that the style is associated with. The style names will not be retained.

Worksheet Changes

Functions not supported in Excel 2.20 will be calculated during the conversion, and only the value will remain in the cell.

Macro Sheet Changes

Excel 3.00 macro functions will appear normally in Excel 2.20. However, the alert "Unsupported Function" will halt the macro when the function is encountered. Any new arguments to existing functions will be ignored by Excel 2.20.

Chart Changes

Charts that contain 3-D chart types, picture charts, and free-standing legends will not open properly in Excel 2.20 and earlier.

Areas Not Supported

Custom dialog boxes: Items such as triggers (100s) and grayed items (200s) will cause macro errors in Excel 2.20 and earlier. Any dialog box that relies on being able to be updated may malfunction.

For a complete list of new or changed worksheet or macro sheet functions, see pages 28 through 41 of the "Microsoft Excel: Upgrading to Version 3.0" version 3.0 manual (upgrade package only).
