Excel: Selecting a Single Data Point on a ChartLast reviewed: November 29, 1994Article ID: Q67477 |
The information in this article applies to:
SUMMARYIn Excel 3.0 and 4.0, to select a single point in a chart, hold down the COMMAND key and click the point with the mouse. In Excel 2.20 or earlier, you can select a single point if there is only one series in the Main chart or only one series in the Overlay chart. If this is the case, click the point with the mouse.
MORE INFORMATIONExcel 3.0 and 4.0 allow you to select a single point regardless of how many series are in the chart. If the COMMAND key is not held down, clicking a single point will highlight the entire series (even if it is the only series on the chart). When holding down the COMMAND key, only the point clicked with the mouse is highlighted. In Excel 2.20 and earlier, you can select a single point in the chart only if that point is in the only series in the chart. If there are two series on the chart, an Overlay must be created if you want to select a single point. With three or more series, you can click only a single point on one of the series, and only by making that series the only series in either the Overlay or the Main chart.
