SUMMARYFor other applications to take advantage of the Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) features of Microsoft Excel, the necessary lines must exist in the WIN.INI file in the [Embedding] section. Each time you run Microsoft Excel, it checks the WIN.INI file to see if the necessary lines are there. If not, Microsoft Excel puts the lines into WIN.INI, and creates the [Embedding] section if necessary. Microsoft Excel does not automatically add the lines to WIN.INI when you install the program.
MORE INFORMATIONIf you install the Microsoft Office (install Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows), then run PowerPoint, the commands necessary to embed worksheets or charts from Microsoft Excel are not available. If you run Microsoft Excel first, the necessary lines are added to the WIN.INI file. Then, when you run PowerPoint, you are able to access the Object Linking and Embedding feature from Microsoft Excel. The lines that Microsoft Excel adds to the [Embedding] section of the WIN.INI file are:
[Embedding] ExcelWorksheet=Worksheet created by Microsoft Excel,Excel Worksheet, Excel.exe, picture ExcelChart=Chart created by Microsoft Excel,Excel Chart,Excel.exe, pictureNOTE: Each of the above entries in the [Embedding] section were too long to fit on a single line in this article, but will appear on single lines in the WIN.INI file.
