SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, if you print a document and the font for the header or footer appears different than the rest of the document, it is possible that the cells from the worksheet are formatted with a different font and/or font size than the Normal style.

There are two ways to correct this:

  1. Choose Style from the Format menu and change the Normal style to the font and font size you want to have applied to the entire document.

    -or-

  2. Format the text in the header or footer by using the following steps:

    Microsoft Excel version 5.0 ---------------------------

    1. From the File menu, choose Page Setup.

    2. Select the Header/Footer tab, and choose the Custom Header or Custom

          Footer button.

    3. Select the text in the header or footer that you want to format, and

choose the Font button (A) to format the font.

    Microsoft Excel versions 3.0 and 4.0 ------------------------------------

    1. From the File menu, choose Page Setup.

    2. Enter the font you want to use in the header or footer line,

surrounded by quotation marks and preceded by an ampersand (&). To
change the font size, place an ampersand followed by the size you
want to use. The following sample header

             &18&"Courier"This is the Header

          will print

             This is the Header

in the Courier font, 18 point font size.

Using either method should allow you to print the header and footer in whichever font you choose.

MORE INFORMATION

The formatting of the header and footer is controlled by the Normal style for the worksheet. You can override the Normal style, however, by using the Custom Header button and formatting the text (version 5.0 only) or by hard coding the font into the Header or Footer line in the Page Setup dialog box.

Highlighting the entire worksheet and changing the font is not the same as changing the Normal style. You must choose Style from the Format menu to change the Normal style.

Additionally, any other changes you make to the Normal style are applied to the entire document, including the header and footer.
