COMPARE.XLA Fails with Filenames that Begin with a Number

SUMMARY

The add-in macro COMPARE.XLA will fail if you attempt to compare a file with a name that begins with a number. You will receive the message "Macro Error at cell: COMPARE.XLA!B52."

MORE INFORMATION

Renaming the file so that the name begins with a letter or "_" character allows the add-in to work.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. On Sheet1, enter "test" (without the quotation marks) in cell A1.

  2. On Sheet2, enter "test" in cell A1.

  3. Save Sheet2 as 1TEST.XLS.

  4. Choose Compare from the Formula menu.

  5. Select Sheet1 and choose OK.

  6. You will receive the error listed above.
