Excel: Opening Text Files with More Than 256 FieldsLast reviewed: November 2, 1994Article ID: Q71908 |
SUMMARYIn versions of Microsoft Excel before 3.00, opening a text file that has more than 256 columns of text causes any fields extending beyond the 256th column on the worksheet to be truncated. In Excel 3.00, fields extending beyond the 256th column are wrapped around to the next row of the worksheet so that none of the information is lost.
