Changing Buttonface Color Does Not Affect Toolbar

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 3.0, 4.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, adding a Buttonface= line to the [Colors] section of the WIN.INI file does not change the color of the buttons on the Toolbar. The Buttonface parameter changes the color of the list box button for styles, but nothing else changes.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Word for Windows, adding the following line to the [Colors] section of the WIN.INI changes the color of the face of buttons such as OK and Cancel to red:

   Buttonface=255 0 0

The Toolbar in Microsoft Word for Windows accepts the Buttonface parameter, but the Microsoft Excel Toolbar does not accept the Buttonface parameter and does not change. This is because Microsoft Word for Windows and Microsoft Excel each handle the Toolbar differently. Microsoft Excel handles the Toolbar internally, while Microsoft Word for Windows has a separate piece of code for the Toolbar that recognizes the Buttonface parameter in the WIN.INI file.

There is presently no method to change the buttonface color of the Microsoft Excel Toolbar.
