SUMMARY
Some early PC Tools version 7.0 utilities may cause the following
problems in Excel:
- The Windows Launcher (WNLAUNCH.EXE) causes the Excel 3.0 Setup
program to hang, immediately after entering the user name and
company name at the Setup's prompt.
- The Windows Scheduler (WINSCHED.EXE) causes an Unrecoverable
Application Error (UAE) in the Printer Setup dialog box.
- UAEs are encountered while running the Excel 3.0 Tutorial.
These problems have been resolved in Central Point Software's latest
update to PC Tools version 7.0. This can be obtained from Central
Point Software by calling its customer service at (503) 690-8080.
MORE INFORMATION
The PC Tools version 7.0 installation program modifies the Load= line in
the WIN.INI file to look like the following:
Load=c:\pctools\wnschedl.exe
c:\pctools\wnlaunch.exe c:\pctools\wntsrman.exe
Workaround
- Use an editor to remark out the Load= line by placing a semicolon
in front of the word Load. It should look like the following:
;Load=c:\pctools\wnschedl.exe c:\pctools\wnlaunch.exe
c:\pctools\wntsrman.exe
- Because some applications will re-create the Load= line if one
doesn't exist, you must also create a new Load= line to look like
the following:
Load=
Excel will now successfully install, and going into the Printer Setup
dialog box will no longer cause a UAE.
