SUMMARY

If you attach text to data points on a 3-D column chart (types 5, 6, or 7) in Microsoft Excel version 3.0, and you select area foreground colors for the attached text, the foreground color you select may not be applied or the foreground color of other attached text may change. The color the foreground changes to will be the color of the series.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel version 3.0. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel version 4.0.

MORE INFORMATION

Workarounds for Excel version 3.0

  1. Select the attached text with the incorrect foreground color.

  2. From the Format menu, choose Patterns.

  3. Leave the foreground color as it is, and change the background color to the color of the series or to the color of your display.

Alternatively, you can use 3-D column chart types 1 through 4 or one of the 2-D column chart types. Or, you can use the Format Font Background White Out feature.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Enter the following data on a worksheet:

          A1: 50 B1: 100
          A2: 100 B2: 200
          A3: 150 B3: 300
          A4: 200 B4: 400
          A5: 250 B5: 500

  2. Select cells A1:B5. Press the F11 function key on your keyboard. Choose OK.

  3. From the Gallery menu, choose 3-D Column. Select chart 6.

  4. From the Chart menu, choose Attach Text.

  5. Attach text to Series 1 and data point 5.

  6. From the Format menu, choose Patterns.

  7. Change the Area Foreground to White.

  8. Repeat steps 4-7, where step 5 is Series 1 and Point 1.

  9. Repeat steps 4-7, where step 5 is Series 2 and Point 5.

At this point, Series 1, Point 5 has changed to red.
