Using Transition Keys to Align Text

SUMMARY

When the Transition Navigation Keys (Microsoft Excel 5.0) or the Alternate Navigation Keys (Microsoft Excel version 4.0) option is enabled, you can use the " (quotation mark), ^ (accent circumflex), and \ (backslash) characters to convert a number to a text string or to change the text alignment in the cell.

With Transition Navigation Keys or Alternate Navigation Keys, Microsoft Excel provides an alternative set of keyboard methods for moving around the worksheet and for entering formulas and data. To activate this option, follow the appropriate procedure below.

When you enable this option, some the functionality of some keys, such as HOME and END, will change. Microsoft Excel supports all 1-2-3 text and alignment characters (', ^, ", and \). The apostrophe ('), in this mode, will align the text in a cell to the left.

1. From the Tools menu, choose Options, and select the Transition tab.

2. Under Settings, select the Transition Navigation Keys check box.

• From the Options menu, choose Workspace, and select the Alternate Navigation Keys check box.
