Excel: Save As Dialog Appears when Closing Unchanged FileLast reviewed: November 4, 1994Article ID: Q82893 |
The information in this article applies to:
Summary: Closing a spreadsheet saved under an optional file format may bring up the "Save Changes in [worksheet name]?" query even if the file is closed immediately after saving. This applies to files saved in all formats except Normal, Template, WKS, WK1, WK3. More Information: Excel brings up the Save As dialog box if the format used when the file was last saved might result in the loss of data. This is intended to serve as an extra safeguard against the loss of information. This information applies to spreadsheets that have been created or changed in the current Excel session. Any document may be opened and closed without the "Save Changes in [worksheet name]?" query if no changes have been made to the file, no matter what its file format. Note: If the file format is Excel 2.x, clicking "Yes" in response to the "Save Changes" query brings up the Save As dialog box with the file format set to Normal. If the document is saved at this point, Excel converts the file back to Normal (Excel 3.0) file format.
