Excel: Dialogs Use Small Font if Helv is Missing

If the HELVx.FON file is not referenced in the [fonts] section in the Microsoft Windows version 3.0 WIN.INI file, or if it has been damaged or deleted, the lettering under the icons in Microsoft Windows and the lettering in some Microsoft Excel for Windows dialog boxes will be blocky and nearly illegible.

In Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 4.0, this will not affect any common dialog boxes such as those that involve opening, saving, or printing.

The problems will become immediately apparent when you start Windows 3.0. The lettering under the icons is very blocky and illegible.

The problem should be corrected by reinstalling the HELVx.FON file for the proper video adapter. Verify that the line for the Helvetica font has been entered in the [fonts] section of the WIN.INI file so that it is similar to the following example:

Upon restarting Windows 3.0 with the revised WIN.INI, the problem should be corrected.
