Excel: Cell Contents Duplicated in Zoomed View

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, cell contents may appear to be repeated, or "ghosted," when your worksheet is zoomed to a magnification other than 100 percent. When this "ghosting" happens, the contents of some cells appear in more than one location on the screen and appear to overwrite the contents of other cells.

This problem may occur only on your screen, or, if you are using a PostScript printer (or other printer that can scale images), it may occur in print preview and on the printed output as well.

WORKAROUNDS

To work around this problem, use the procedure appropriate for your situation:

Method 1: If "ghosting" does not appear on the printed output or in print

          preview, do the following to change the percentage of the zoom:

          a. From the Window menu, choose Zoom.

          b. In the Custom Magnification box, type 129% (for example)
             rather than 130%.

          output, do the following:

          a. From the File menu, choose Page Setup.

          b. In the Page Setup dialog box, under Scaling (in the lower
             portion of the dialog box), in the Reduce/Enlarge box, type
             "100%" (without the quotation marks).

          c. In the Reduce/Enlarge box higher up in the Page Setup dialog
             box, specify the desired scale.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post more information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
