Excel: Excel Saved 1-2-3 File not Listed in Open Dialog BoxLast reviewed: November 29, 1994Article ID: Q89126 |
The information in this article applies to:
Summary: Version 4.0 of Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh assigns a file type of LWKS to documents saved in any Lotus 1-2-3 file format. As a result, any application that does not recognize LWKS as a file type (including earlier versions of Microsoft Excel) will not display those files in a standard File Open dialog. In order to open documents in applications that do not recognize this file type, use a different file format when saving the exported document, edit the file type of the document, or the destination application must have a method for "forcing" unrecognized files to load. The LWKS file type is used for complete compatibility with Lotus 1-2-3 for the Macintosh, which assigns file types of LWK* (LWKS, LWK1, or LWK3) to saved documents. More Information: Any Excel 4.0 document that is saved to either WKS, WK1, or WK3 file format will be assigned a file type of LWKS. (Earlier versions of Excel assigned a type of TEXT to 1-2-3 files.) This file type is consistent with the type information assigned by Lotus 1-2-3 for the Macintosh.
