Excel: Error Saving Macintosh Excel File to LAN Manager Server

SUMMARY

Trying to save a file from Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh to a read/write share on a LAN Manager server results in the error message:

   Cannot access read-only document.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in LAN Manager, version 2.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.

Workaround

To work around this problem, save the file to a local drive or floppy disk then copy it to the server after quitting Excel.
