Last reviewed: July 16, 1997
Article ID: Q90402
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 4.0

Summary:

A STEP() macro statement in an Auto_Open routine which executes while Excel is launching will result in a macro error. If Excel is already open when the Auto_Open macro executes, the function behaves normally.

More Information:

Double-clicking an Excel 4.0 document from the desktop while Excel is not running in the background launches Excel and opens the selected document. In this circumstance, any STEP() statement executed by an Auto_Open macro results in a macro error.

Workaround

Loading the document from within Excel by choosing Open from the File menu avoids this problem.
