XL4: Cannot Use Worksheet Comparison with Bound Worksheet

SYMPTOMS

You cannot use the Worksheet Comparison add-in macro included with Microsoft Excel 4.0 if you are trying to do either of the following:

  • Compare two bound worksheets.

        -or-
    
  • Use the Worksheet Comparison add-in macro with a worksheet active while you are trying to choose a Bound worksheet from the Worksheet Comparison dialog box.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of the design of the add-in.

WORKAROUND

To compare a worksheet with a bound workbook sheet, make the bound worksheet active before you click Compare on the Formula menu.

To compare two bound workbook sheets, do either of the following:

  • Unbind both worksheets. To unbind a worksheet, do the following:

        1. Activate the Workbook Contents Window.
    

        2. Select the worksheet you want to unbind.
    

        3. Click the Options button (located at the bottom of the Workbook
           Contents screen).
    

        4. Enable the Separate File (Unbound) button and click OK.
    

        -or-
    
  • Unbind one worksheet and compare from the bound sheet to the unbound sheet.

Microsoft Excel 4.0 includes a Worksheet Comparison add-in macro that allows you to compare the active worksheet to another worksheet and generates a report that lists the differences.

   NOTE: If you are using Microsoft Excel for Windows, the file name
   for this add-in macro is COMPARE.XLA. If you are using Microsoft
   Excel for the Macintosh, the file name for this add-in macro is
   WORKSHEET COMPARISON.
