Excel: Insert Paste Unavailable when Data Obtained with Cut

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q99661
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a

Page 180 of the "User's Guide 1," version 4.0, and page 150 of the "User's Guide," version 3.0, indicate that after you use the Cut command you can use the Insert Paste command (on the Edit menu) to paste information in any worksheet.

This information only partially correct. When you use the Cut command, you can use the Insert Paste command only on the active sheet. If you try to paste the information to another worksheet, the Insert Paste command will be unavailable (dimmed).

WORKAROUND

To use the Insert Paste command on a sheet other than the active one, use the Copy command instead of the Cut command.
