Last reviewed: April 21, 1997
Article ID: Q140936
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Exchange Server, version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Exchange System Attendant starts to use 90-100% of the CPU time and then crashes with the following error message:

Unexpected function: function "SC RUN RideX" exception: 0xc0000005
   location: 0xbdb5781D occurred.

Following this, a Dr Watson log is generated:

Application MAD.DBG Generated an Application Error
Exception Error C0000005 at address 0xbdb5781D.

CAUSE

The problem is caused when a Microsoft Exchange Gateway Address Routing Table (GWART) containing a potential circular route, is imported from one Microsoft Exchange Server into a second Microsoft Exchange Server. When this second Microsoft Exchange Server attempts to regenerate it's GWART to remove the circular route, it crashes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0. This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft Exchange Server U.S. Service Pack.
