XCLN: Posted Word Document Loses Original FilenameLast reviewed: April 3, 1997Article ID: Q147289 |
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange Windows 95 client, versions 4.0 and 5.0 - Microsoft Exchange Windows 3.x client, versions 4.0 and 5.0 - Microsoft Exchange Windows NT client, versions 4.0 and 5.0
SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Exchange for Windows, documents can be posted to Exchange folders. These documents can then be edited with the application that created it. When you edit a posted Microsoft Word for Windows document that contains the FileName field, the filename, for example, "TEST.DOC", changes to "Document in Microsoft Exchange" when you post the file again to the Exchange folder. The filename in the title bar also changes to "Document in Microsoft Exchange". Other document types are not affected, that is, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Notepad, etc. documents retain their filenames under these circumstances.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange version 4.0 for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
