XCLN: Mail-Message-Format-Menu Hot Key Differs from MS Word

Last reviewed: March 31, 1997
Article ID: Q147526

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Exchange Windows NT client, versions 4.0 and 5.0
  • Microsoft Exchange Windows 95 client, versions 4.0 and 5.0

SYMPTOMS

Some of the access hot keys in the Microsoft Exchange client are different than in other Windows applications, resulting in unexpected effects or error/warning beeps.

For example, the <Alt>-O (Format) hot key, used for getting to the Format menu in applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel, is used in the Microsoft Exchange client to bring up the Address Book screen when called within the New Messeage (send note) screen. If you presses <Alt>-O outside of the New Message screen, an error beep occurs.

STATUS

Microsoft has concluded that it is not possible to redesign this and other hot keys to completely conform to other Windows applications like Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.
