XADM: Information Store Fails to Start with 1011 ErrorLast reviewed: February 3, 1998Article ID: Q149238 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIf a copy of the Microsoft Exchange Information Store (the Pub.edb and Priv.edb files) is restored from an off-line backup, when the service is re-started it will fail with a 1011 error. The 1011 error will produce an entry in the Windows NT Event Viewer Application Log with Source ID 2048. The error message will read as follows:
The Information Store was restored from an off-line backup. Run ISINTEG -PATCH before restarting the Information Store. CAUSEThis error occurs because the Globally Unique Identifiers (GUIDs) used by the Information Store that was restored are old and matching GUIDs could already exist. The GUID for this restored Information Store needs to be replaced to ensure that it is unique.
RESOLUTIONThis is by design. You need to patch the information store to replace the GUIDs used by the restored Information Store by running Isinteg - patch. Isinteg in patch mode will run against the entire Information Store (both the Pub.edb and Priv.edb files). It will generate new GUIDs and also patch replication information to prevent incorrect backfilling. To run Isinteg -patch:
will be replaced, and Isinteg will report that the Information Storehas been updated successfully.
MORE INFORMATIONThe Windows NT Backup utility will automatically patch the Information Store when it is restored from an online backup only. If the Information Store is restored from an offline Windows NT Backup, you must run Isinteg.exe. Isinteg.exe run in patch mode performs no integrity checks, so you should run Isinteg.exe in test mode after running it in patch mode. For instructions on how to run Isinteg.exe in check mode, please see pages 617 - 618 of the Microsoft Exchange Administrator's Guide.
