XADM: How to Modify Fields in the Exchange Mailbox Template

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Exchange two template tabs used for the seven template types: Custom Recipient, Distribution List, Exchange Send Options, Mailbox, Mailbox agent, Public Folder, and Search Dialog. The fields displayed can be removed from the template, moved within the template, or new fields added to the template.

Removing the field does not remove the field from the Microsoft Exchange server schema. The original configuration can be restored by selecting Original under the Templates or MS-DOS Templates tab.

The template tab is used by the Windows clients and the MS-DOS template tab is used by the MS-DOS client.

To edit, add, or remove a field from the template information display: (using the MAILBOX type as an example)

In the Administrator program:

  1. Click configuration on the Site menu. Select Addressing and Details
Templates. Then select the English/USA mailbox and select Templates.

  1. Add, delete, or move fields in the template.

  2. Click Test to view the template as it will be seen from the client.

To view the change from the client, click Address Book on the Tools menu. Double-click a mailbox user. The user must exit and log off of the client before he or she sees the changes. The other template types are changed and verified the same way.

The change is only visible on the client side. When you view a mailbox through Microsoft Exchange Administrator does not reflect the template change.
