The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen a plain text attachment is sent to a Microsoft Exchange Macintosh client, the attachments appear associated with Microsoft Word. When the attachment is opened, Word opens and the text file is opened in Word.
CAUSEThe Exchange Preferences file does not contain a reference for opening Plain Text attachments using SimpleText or TeachText.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0. This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft Exchange Service Pack. For information on obtaining the Service Pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
