XFOR: IMC May Incorrectly Set Time Zone Information

SYMPTOMS

Under certain circumstances, messages sent from a Microsoft Exchange Server Internet Mail Connector (IMC) appear to have been sent 13 hours in the future.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server, version 4.0.

Most occurrences of this problem have been corrected in the latest Microsoft Exchange 4.0 U.S. Service Pack. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):

   S E R V P A C K

However, this Service Pack missed a case in which inbound non-Rich Text Format (RTF) messages will still exhibit this problem.

A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression-tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for more information.

This problem occurs when all of the following conditions are met:

  • The time zone setting on the server is set to "(GMT+1200) Wellington, Auckland".
  • The "Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes" check box is selected.
  • It is daylight saving time in the country where the IMC is located.
