XWEB: Logging in from Web Requires ALIAS Name

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.0

SYMPTOMS

When you log on to Microsoft Exchange Server from a web browser using the Active Server Components, you must specify the mailbox alias in the logon box.

If you attempt to use information other than the ALIAS, such as the display name, your will not be able to log on and the following error message may appear:

   MAPI logon failed. Information store could not be opened.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
