XFOR: IMS Behind Firewall Does Not Use Second MX Record

SYMPTOMS

When you use an Internet firewall, Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0 and 5.0 will sometimes fail to use a second MX record if the first is unavailable.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server versions 4.0 and 5.0.

For Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0, we are currently researching this problem and will post more information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft Exchange Server 5.0 U.S. Service Pack. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
