XADM: Event ID 1191 Occurs When Rebooting After Installation

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Exchange Server 5.0 and reboot the server, the following error may occur in the application event log:

   Event Id: 1191
   Source: MSExchangeIS
   Type: Error
   Description: The total number of threads configured for the message
   store(25)appears to be too small for the current store configuration.
   Using 27 threads instead.

NOTE: The thread numbers may vary depending on the case.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, perform the following steps:

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.

  1. Enter the Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

  2. Go to the following key:

    HKEY_local machine\system\current control set\services\MSexchangeIS\parametersSystem

  3. In the right pane, highlight the following:

    Minimum Threads : REG_DWORD : 0x3

  4. From the Edit menu, click DWORD and change the Data value to 3.

  5. Click OK and exit the registry and then stop and start the information store.
