SYMPTOMSWhen message volume is extremely high on a DEC Alpha computer, the message transfer agent (MTA) may stop unexpectedly and an event similar to the following may appear in the event log:
Source: MSExchangeMTA Event: 9405 Type: Error Category: Field Engineering Description: An unexpected error has occurred which may cause the MTA to terminate. Error: Access violation (0xc0000005) at Address 0x4aff38 reading from 0x0. [BASE XFER-IN 16] (16) CAUSEThis problem can occur when a Microsoft Exchange function fails. Some Microsoft Exchange functions are known to fail under stressful conditions on DEC Alpha computers.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression-tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
