The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for Windows, versions 2.5, 2.5a, and 2.5b
  • Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, versions 2.0, 2.5, 2.5a, and 2.5b

The documentation for the BROWSE LOCK command on page C3-178 in the "Commands & Functions" manual (FoxPro 2.0 for MS-DOS) and on page L3-244 in the "Language Reference" manual (FoxPro 2.5 and later for MS-DOS and Windows) may be unclear. The LOCK clause creates a partition only wide enough to display the number of fields specified by <expN2>; however, other fields will be visible in that partition if it is scrolled.

For example, if you issue the USE CUSTOMER.DBF command and then issue the BROWSE LOCK 3 command, the first three fields (CNO, CUSTOMER, and COMPANY) will be shown in the left partition. However if you click in the left partition and scroll to the right, you can scroll past the three fields that were specified in the LOCK clause.
