PRB: Configuration Portion of INSTALL /N Fails

Last reviewed: April 18, 1995
Article ID: Q110116
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, versions 2.5, 2.5a, and 2.5b

SYMPTOMS

The Configuration portion of a Workstation Installation (INSTALL /N) fails with one of the three following messages:

  • FoxPro error message:

There has been a problem installing the optional files.

The base product has been successfully installed. Only the
optional products have not been installed. If you want to
install any optional files, you can do so by following the
instructions in the Installation and Configuration manual.

If you are unable to correct the problem or need additional
          help, contact Microsoft Product Support.

Followed by the MS-DOS error message:

          Installation Aborted.

  • MS-DOS error message:

          Bad command or file name

  • MS-DOS error message:

Cannot locate the desired version of FoxPro

CAUSE

The command, "INSTALL /N" (without the quotation marks) was not issued from the directory containing the Administrative Installation (INSTALL /A) of FoxPro.

RESOLUTION

Go to the drive and directory containing the Administrative Installation of FoxPro, then reissue the INSTALL /N command.

MORE INFORMATION

After a Workstation Installation completes the Basic portion of its installation, it calls the FoxPro program ADDUSER.APP to configure the workstation for the network environment. In order for FoxPro to load and run ADDDUSER.APP, the current directory must be the Administrative Installation directory.

The error received depends on which directory you started INSTALL /N from, and whether you are running it from an MS-DOS prompt in Windows, or at MS-DOS itself.
