Article ID: Q112855
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for Windows, versions 2.5, 2.5a, 2.5b, and 2.6
  • Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, versions 2.5, 2.5a, 2.5b, and 2.6
  • Microsoft FoxPro for Macintosh, version 2.5b

SYMPTOMS

The file sort order for FILER, GETDIR(), GETFILE(), LOCFILE(), and PUTFILE() is inconsistent between FoxPro for MS-DOS and Macintosh and FoxPro for Windows.

To demonstrate this behavior, create files or directories with the following names:

   1TEST, ATEST, _TEST, !TEST

FoxPro for MS-DOS and Macintosh will display the list in the following order:

   !TEST, 1TEST, ATEST, _TEST

FoxPro for Windows will display the list in this order:

   !TEST, 1TEST, _TEST, ATEST

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
