PRB: Grouped Boxes Do Not Transport Correctly

Last reviewed: April 18, 1995

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, versions 2.5, 2.5a, 2.5b, 2.6

SYMPTOMS

If a screen or report containing grouped boxes is transported from FoxPro for Windows or FoxPro for Macintosh to FoxPro for MS-DOS, the boxes are not be correctly joined after they have been transported.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because FoxPro for Windows and FoxPro for Macintosh are both graphical environments and draw the boxes as graphics.

When the file is transported to FoxPro for MS-DOS, an attempt is made to substitute matching line-drawing characters from the ASCII character set.

Regrouping the boxes forces FoxPro for MS-DOS to choose the desired line- drawing characters.

RESOLUTION

  1. After the file has been transported, select the two boxes.

  2. Ungroup the boxes, then regroup them. The correct connecting characters should be restored.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Start either FoxPro for Windows or FoxPro for Macintosh.

  2. Create a screen. Add two rectangles to the screen, placed so that the bottom edge of one exactly lines up with the top edge of the other.

  3. Select both boxes and group them as one object.

  4. Save and close the screen and open it in FoxPro for MS-DOS. Transport the file.

  5. Note that the boxes are not joined correctly. The same file transports correctly from FoxPro for Windows to FoxPro for Macintosh and vice versa.
