BUG: GETFILE() Returns Incorrect Results

Last reviewed: June 27, 1995
Article ID: Q115211
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for Windows, versions 2.5, 2.5a, 2.5b, 2.6

SYMPTOMS

If GETFILE() is used with a file that has no extension in a directory that does have an extension, incorrect results are returned.

For example:

  1. Create a directory called TEST.DAT and create a file in that directory called MYFILE, with no extension.

  2. In the Command window, type "?getfile()" (without the quotation marks).

  3. In the Open dialog box, double-click MYFILE. The filename that is returned is TEST.DAT\MYFILE.DAT\MYFILE, which is incorrect.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this problem, select (highlight) the file and click the Open button, instead of double-clicking the file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in FoxPro versions 2.5, 2.5a, 2.5b, 2.6 for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
