How to Determine Macintosh System Information

To determine system information about your Macintosh, choose About This Macintosh from the Apple menu.

To determine system information about your Macintosh, such as the system version and available memory, do the following:

  1. If the Finder (a Macintosh) isn't displayed as the Application menu icon (the top-right corner of the screen), choose Finder from the Application menu.

  2. From the Apple menu (the top-left corner of the screen) choose About This Macintosh.

The top half of the dialog box displayed provides the following information:
  • System Version
  • Type of Macintosh
  • Built-in Memory (physical memory)
  • Total Memory (virtual memory)
  • Largest Unused Block (available memory)

The bottom half of this dialog box displays the amount of memory allocated, and used, by the system and each application that is running.

Each row of this area lists a running application (including the system), followed by the amount of memory allocated to that application. To the right of the memory amount is a bar that graphically represents allocated memory. The amount of the bar that is black represents the amount of the allocated memory currently in use by the application.

NOTE: FoxPro for Macintosh requires System 7.0 or later.
