PRB: "Error Initializing OLE" May Be Caused by Missing File

SUMMARY

If you double-click a general field in a database, the field will not open and the error message "Error Initializing OLE" will appear even if the field is empty.

CAUSE

This error may be caused by a missing "Shared Code Manager" file in the Extensions folder.

RESOLUTION

Make sure the "Shared Code Manager" file is in the Extensions folder. If it isn't in the folder, you can install it by performing a custom installation of FoxPro. During the installation, clear all the check boxes except for the one labeled "FoxPro for Macintosh".

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Remove the "Shared Code Manager" file from the Extensions Folder.

  2. Restart the Macintosh.

  3. Open a FoxPro database with a general field.

  4. Double-click a general field in the database. The error message will appear. The general field cannot be opened even if there is nothing in it.
