The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FoxPro for Windows, version 2.6
  • Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, version 2.6

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to import a file in Catalog Manager, choosing Yes when you are prompted to overwrite an existing file with the same name causes the Open dialog box to be displayed, instead of overwriting the existing file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in FoxPro version 2.6a for Windows and FoxPro version 2.6a for MS-DOS.

MORE INFORMATION

You can can import files of various types into FoxPro by choosing Import from the Data menu of Catalog Manager. If the filename you are trying to import already exists on the system, Catalog Manager displays the error message "<filename> already exists. Overwrite it?" If you choose the Yes button, Catalog Manager displays the Open dialog box again, instead of overwriting the file.

To close the Open dialog box, you must choose the No button when the error message prompts you to overwrite the file.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Use the CUSTOMER.DBF table, located in the <FoxPro_directory>\TUTORIAL subdirectory.

  2. In the Command window, type "COPY TO c:\test.wk1 TYPE WK1" (without the quotation marks) to create a text file in the Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet format on drive C.

  3. Start the Catalog Manager. From the Data menu, choose Import.

  4. In the Import Data dialog box, under File Type, select Lotus 1-2-3 2x.

  5. Choose the File button. In the Open dialog box, select the TEST.WK1 file created in step 2.

  6. Chose the Save As button, and then select the directory where you want to save the file.

  7. Choose the Import button to import the file.

After the file is imported, a .DBF file with the same name as the imported file will exist in the selected directory.

  8. Repeat steps 4 through 6 to import this file again. When prompted to overwrite the file, choose Yes.

Note that Catalog Manager displays the Open dialog box again instead of overwriting the file.
