Last reviewed: October 18, 1996

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for Windows, versions 2.5, 2.5a, 2.5b, 2.6, 2.6a

SYMPTOMS

You have problems when connecting to an Oracle 7 server via ODBC.

RESOLUTION

Check the version of the Oracle ODBC driver being used. If it is version 6, which ships with the Connectivity Kit for FoxPro for Windows, versions 2.x, 2.6, and 2.6a, obtain the version 7 driver that is now available from Oracle or the Microsoft ODBC Driver Pack version 2.0.

To Obtain the Version 7 Driver from Oracle

Oracle has made the driver available.

NOTE: Microsoft recommends that if you have Oracle Server version 7, use the version 7 ODBC driver instead of the version 6 driver. Some of the functionality of Oracle 7 is lost if you use the ODBC driver version 6.

You may also need to get version 1.1.7.11 or higher of SQL*NET. It corrects some problems using FoxPro to connect to Oracle 7 over TCP/IP. It is available as a patch from Oracle. Please call Oracle directly; you'll need to have a support contract with Oracle.
