PRB: Help Not Invoked in an Executable

Last reviewed: May 24, 1996
Article ID: Q130409
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for Macintosh, version 2.6a

SYMPTOMS

Stand-alone executables built with FoxPro for Macintosh version 2.6a fail to launch Help when installed using the Setup Wizard.

Graphical Help is selected when disk images are created by the Setup Wizard. On a target machine, the Installer places the FoxPro help engine in

    <boot volume>:System Folder:Extensions:Microsoft:Help:

When a user attempts to invoke help, the command fails with no error message.

CAUSE

The location of Help engine files and FoxPro's mechanism for finding these files changed between versions 2.5x and 2.6a. The Setup Wizard was not updated to reflect this change.

RESOLUTION

Before running the Setup Wizard, copy the following files into the source folder:

   Microsoft Help
   FoxPro Help Engine

When running Setup Wizard ensure that Graphical Help check box is cleared. On the target machine, the Help engine is then installed in the same folder as the application.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
