PRB: "File <filename> Does Not Exist" on FoxPro/Unix

Last reviewed: February 20, 1997
Article ID: Q163795
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for UNIX, version 2.6

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a table with the USE command or with the Open File dialog box, the following error occurs:

File <path and file name> does not exist

CAUSE

The filename contains uppercase characters. The UNIX operating system is case-sensitive even if FoxPro is not. However, FoxPro is looking for the filename in all lowercase characters.

RESOLUTION

Rename the file in all lowercase letters. Use the UNIX L command (the equivalent of the MS-DOS DIR command) to verify that the filename contains only lowercase characters.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
