PRB: No Cursor, No Keyboard Input Accepted at Startup

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, versions 1.02 and 2.0

SYMPTOMS

After displaying its initial screen, FoxPro appears to hang. The cursor may not appear in the Command window and keyboard input is not accepted. After the ESC key is pressed repeatedly, the Do Program dialog box sometimes appears.

CAUSE

The machine has a ROM BIOS (basic input/output system) version that does not support the F11 and F12 function keys.

RESOLUTION

There are three methods of working around this problem, as follows:

  • Specify the F11F12 = OFF switch in the CONFIG.FP configuration file.

    -or-

  • Specify the -K option switch on the FoxPro command line, as follows:

          FOXPRO -K
    

        -or-
    
  • Contact the computer dealer or manufacturer for information on upgrading the ROM BIOS.
