PRB: Switching Screens Causes "Too Many Reads in Effect" Error

Last reviewed: April 29, 1996
Article ID: Q88293
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, versions 2.0, 2.5, and 2.5a
  • Microsoft FoxPro for Windows, version 2.5 and 2.5a

SYMPTOMS

When the user switches between two data-entry screens, a "Too many reads in effect" error occurs.

CAUSE

The maximum read level in FoxPro is five. Switching between screens causes the system to exceed this limit.

RESOLUTION

Code the application to issue a CLEAR READ command to clear the read when the user switches to another data-entry screen rather than reissuing the read for the first data-entry screen.
