PRB: "Invalid or Missing EXE File" While Using a TSR Program

Last reviewed: April 17, 1995
Article ID: Q95371
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, version 2.0

SUMMARY

After some terminate-and-stay-resident (TSR) programs are loaded in conventional memory, starting FoxPro with FOX.EXE, FOXPRO.EXE, or FOXPROL.EXE may cause the error message "Invalid or missing EXE file" to occur.

CAUSE

With the TSR programs occupying memory, FoxPro may have problems loading in Standard mode. Loading FOX.EXE may indirectly load FOXPRO.EXE or FOXPROL.EXE, which requires sufficient conventional memory.

RESOLUTION

Configure the system to run FoxPro in Extended mode and try to start FoxPro with FOXPROX.EXE or FOXPROLX.EXE.
