The information in this article applies to:
The section labeled "If networked, you need" on the back of the box containing FoxPro 2.5 for Windows or FoxPro 2.5 for MS-DOS contains the following information:
- Network software that supports a network basic input/output system (NetBIOS) - Server with a hard diskNetBIOS is an API used by applications on a local area network (LAN) with either the MS-DOS operating system or some version of UNIX. This API provides developers with a uniform set of commands for requesting lower- level network services. FoxPro uses standard NetBIOS API calls to request file and record locks from the network. To allow users to share data, the network must be able to interpret these API calls. When a Novell network is installed, the administrator has the option of installing the NetBIOS component. Many choose not to do this for various reasons. FoxPro requires only that the network be NetBIOS compatible. The NetBIOS component of Novell does not need to be installed in order to have FoxPro 2.5 function correctly on a Novell network.
