FP98: Not All Office Clipart Visible in FrontPage Editor

Last reviewed: March 18, 1998

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FrontPage 98 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

If you are using FrontPage 98 on a system that also has Office 97 or Office 95 installed, all of the files visible in the Clip Art dialog box may not be usable by FrontPage.

If you try to insert these images into FrontPage Editor, you may see that the images are not converted correctly and that they appear as broken images.

CAUSE

Office 97

Not all of the Office 97 Clip Art files that are installed when you install the extra clip art can be converted successfully by FrontPage 98.

For additional information about installing clip art elements that FrontPage cannot convert, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

   ARTICLE-ID: Q162914
TITLE : OFF97: How to Configure Setup to Install Extra Clip Art

Office 95

Office 95 Clip Art files are in the .pcs file format, which FrontPage 98 is not capable of converting or rendering.

RESOLUTION

Insert the clip art image into a Microsoft Office application, such as Microsoft Word, and then cut and paste the image into FrontPage Editor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Note that if you click Clipart on the Insert menu and then choose PCS files, you receive the following message

FrontPage Editor could not load <path_to_FrontPage>\temp\<image.pcs>

where <path_to_FrontPage> is the path on your hard drive to where FrontPage was installed and <image.pcs> is the name of the .pcs file containing the image. You do not receive this message when you choose Clipart from within the Insert Image dialog box.

If you want to browse only .gif or .jpeg files within the Microsoft Clip Gallery dialog box, follow these steps:

  1. In FrontPage Editor, on the Insert menu, click ClipArt.

  2. In the Microsoft Clip Gallery dialog box, click Find.

  3. In the Find Clip dialog box, under Clip Type, select GIF or JPEG Filter, and then click Find Now.
