SYMPTOMS

When you click I Agree in the Terms And Conditions dialog box while installing the Microsoft Personal Web Server, you receive the following error message:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will
be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program
   vendor.

CAUSE

This error appears if 32-bit TCP/IP was not installed on your computer before you ran the FrontPage 98 Setup program and you performed the following steps in the order listed:

  1. Ran the FrontPage 98 Setup program.

  2. Clicked Yes to install TCP/IP.

  3. Clicked Restart when you were prompted to restart your computer.

  4. Attempted to install the Microsoft Personal Web Server.

  5. Clicked I Agree in the Terms And Conditions dialog box.

This error does not appear if you do not attempt to install the Microsoft Personal Web Server.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, stop and then restart the FrontPage 98 Setup program by following these steps:

  1. Click Close when you receive the Illegal Operation error message.

  2. Close the FrontPage 98 Setup dialog box by clicking the Close button (the X in the upper right corner of the dialog box).

  3. Double-click the My Computer icon.

  4. Double-click the drive icon for the drive that contains the FrontPage 98 compact disc.

  5. Double-click the Setup.exe file to restart the FrontPage Setup program.

If you still receive an Illegal Operation message after you have restarted FrontPage 98 Setup, restart your computer and then repeat steps 3 through 5.
