SYMPTOMS

When you view a HyperText Markup Language (HTML) document that contains hover buttons in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, you will see a gray rectangle on the page and the following message will appear on the Web browser's status bar.

   Exception: Java.Lang.ArraystoreException

CAUSE

The problem occurs when the Java Virtual Machine in Internet Explorer 4.0 displays Java controls at a color depth of 32-bits per pixel.

RESOLUTION

You can work around this behavior by using one of the following methods:

Method 1: Reduce the color depth to less than 32-bits per pixel

  1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click the Display icon.

  3. Click the Settings tab.

  4. In the Color Palette list, select a value other than 32-bit color.

Method 2: Use a graphic rather than the hover button

  1. In FrontPage Editor, double-click the hover button.

  2. In the Hover Button Properties dialog box, click Custom.

  3. In the Custom Properties dialog box, click Browse.

  4. Select the graphic file you want to use in place of the hover button and click OK.

  5. Click Browse.

  6. Select the graphic file you want to use for the on hover event and click OK.

  7. Click OK.

Method 3: Upgrade to Internet Explorer 4.01

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0. This problem was corrected in Internet Explorer 4.01.
