Character Set Notes

  • ANSI stands for American National Standards Institute. This set is an 8-bit character set used by Microsoft Windows that allows you to represent up to 256 characters (0 - 255) using your keyboard.
  • 8859-2 is a non-Windows character set used in Eastern Europe.
  • KOI8-R is a non-Windows character set used for Russian Web pages.
  • EUC and JIS are non-Windows character sets used in Japanese Web pages.
