To uninstall Internet Explorer 4.0 for Windows 3.1, double-click the
Internet Explorer 4.0 program group, and then double-click Uninstall.
After uninstall is complete, the Internet Explorer 4.0 program group
remains with an icon to install Internet Explorer again. To completely
remove Internet Explorer 4.0 setup files, follow these steps:
- Delete the Internet Explorer 4.0 program group.
- Delete the Ie4Setup directory.
To uninstall Internet Explorer for Windows 3.1, follow these steps:
- Quit the Windows session (leaving you at a command prompt).
- At an MS-DOS command prompt, type the following line, and then press
ENTER:
deltree iexplore
- When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, press Y.
- Type the following line, and then press ENTER:
cd\windows
- Type the following line, and then press ENTER:
edit system.ini
- Locate and delete the following lines in the System.ini file:
device=c:\iexplore\iedial.386
device=c:\iexplore\vxdpctcp.386
device=c:\iexplore\iewcomm.386
- Save and then close the System.ini file.
- Type the following line, and then press ENTER:
cd\
- Type the following line, and then press ENTER:
edit autoexec.bat
- Delete the two lines beginning with "set ieppp" and "set pctcp"
(without quotation marks). Also, delete the part of the PATH statement
that refers to "c:\iexplore" (without quotation marks).
- Save and then close the Autoexec.bat file.
- Restart your computer.
