Hosting refers to the ability to open files for viewing within the Web browser. Internet Explorer for Windows 3.1 and Windows NT 3.51 is a 16-bit browser, and does not have the ability to host Microsoft Office documents. When you click an Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) link that calls a Microsoft Office document (such as a Microsoft Word document), the Microsoft Office program starts and the document is loaded into the program for viewing.
